305 South Street, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA 02130; formerly the Massachusetts Public Health Biologic Lab.; established 110 years ago to serve the State of Massachusetts; MBL develops and manufactures vaccines and other biologics primarily for the State for distribution through its Universal Childhood Immunization Program; From 1959 to 1996, MBL was administered by the Massachusetts Health Research Institute (MHRI), a private, non-profit corporation under contract to the Dept. of Public Health; In Jan. 1997, MHRI was transferred to the Univ. of Massachusetts; MBL is still self-funded through state and other grants and contracts; MBL is one of only a few publicly operated biologics manufacturing facilities in the country, and is the only one still operated by a state government; MBL is building new manufacturing facilities on the site of Boston State Hospital (Mattapan, MA).
